We are developing a series of “People’s Maps” as guides to municipalities in Greater Boston and to particular neighborhoods in Boston proper.
The Boston Globe ran a column about the map series, and about the book as well, in May 2025.
The first map, published in August 2022, is “A People’s Map of Lawrence, Massachusetts.”

If you would like to purchase a copy of the People’s Map of Lawrence (it is 2′ x 3′ in size), you can do so via the online store of the Lawrence History Center. Copies are also on sale at the Museum Shop of the Lawrence State Heritage Park. If you would like to download the map, you can do so via the digital collection of the Leventhal Map and Education Center at the Boston Public Library or via the American Geographical Society Library Digital Map Collection at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
In May 2025, we published a second one: “A People’s Map of Lowell, Massachusetts.”

The Lowell map is available for purchase at the Lawrence History Center via this link. A digital copy is available for downloading via the Leventhal Map and Education Center at the Boston Public Library.
Lowell’s daily newspaper, The Sun, ran a brief article on the map on June 22, 2025.
In terms of future “People’s Maps,” work is underway in relation to the Boston neighborhoods of Chinatown and East Boston.
